Try to fix Valve’s Steam Deck at your own peril
Valve has long been a supporter of hardware and software open, but the latest video makes a case that is contrary to the upcoming steam deck. The game company has posted a Teardown Deck Steam video which shows how to clench a handheld console while simultaneously urging you to close the system. This is of course possible to enter – it’s just that you might just cause more problems than you solve.
As the valve described, the steam deck is packaged strongly with a very customizable part, including thumstick. While the company promises replacement for various parts of the “next few months,” there is a chance you will damage the system on the way through static electricity or other accidents. There can also be consequences for using off-the-shelf parts. SSD shares can interfere with thermal handheld, for example. You can even compromise the integrity of the console just by opening it, according to Valve.
This possibility will not deter you if you insist on improving yourself. Valves clearly expect at least some of the official improvement efforts to provide plans. However, it is clear that your part maker wants to rely on its own technicians, or at least a third party pro, if the deck breaks. This machine is not a poster child for the right to repair advocates, even if it is easier to repair than other devices.
