YouTube targets climate change deniers as part of wider crackdown

While the video rejection of climate change can remain on YouTube, they will no longer sweep the advertising dollar. The company has announced plans to strip advertisements from video rejection of climate change amid greater hard action on the wrong information. The decision seems to be mostly driven by YouTube partners who don’t want their products to appear next to this video.

The decision seems to be mostly driven by YouTube partners who don’t want their products to appear next to this video. Thus, Google updates monetization policy to block ads on video rejection of climate change, including content that denies the knowledge behind climate change, calls it hoax, or denies the role of humans in the warming of our planet.

YouTube says it won’t delete advertisements from videos that discuss the claims of rejection of climate change from the point of view, for example, dissecting why they are wrong or why people fall for related fraud. Instead, this change will apply to videos that provide climate change information errors as if it is a fact.

Other types of climate related videos will still get ads, as well, including debates about climate policy, research related to topics, and similar. Human reviews will join the automatic YouTube tool to decide which video presents ads and which will be blocked from monetization.

New advertising policies will be aired in November. Changes in this ad followed a recent YouTube decision to ban videos that spread vaccine errors, including claims that vaccines produce chronic health problems or that they failed to protect the recipients of the disease.
